Check out the classes we have to offer!

  • Symphonic Singers is a class that follows the Indiana Academic Standards for High School Choral Music.

This is the freshman level of choir, however, it is not limited to only freshman. All grades can join! These singers will learn to develop their musical skills through daily practice in the following: singing with good tone quality, utilizing proper breath support, and proper vowel pronunciation. They’ll also cover professional concert behavior.

It’s not all practical, though! Students will also learn to read music, learn different musical symbols, cover basic music theory, and cover specifics regarding notation.

Symphonic Singers is a full year class which participates in choral contests and at least four concerts. There are also solo and small group opportunities for those interested.

Grades are based on classwork and participation in rehearsals and concerts.

    Prerequisites: None

Credits: 2 semester course, 1 credit per semester.

The nature of this course allows for successive semesters of instruction at an advanced level provided that defined proficiencies and content standards are utilized.

  • Intermediate Chorus is a class that follows the Indiana Academic Standards for High School Choral Music. It’s open to grades 10, 11, and 12.

Entrance into this choir is by audition and director’s approval. These students will continue their study of good choral technique during which vocal blend is stressed. They’ll also dive deeper into their proper personal singing technique and musicianship through the process of rehearsing and singing various sacred and secular works. There are solo and small ensemble opportunities for these students and they are encouraged to participate in the ISSMA Solo & Ensemble Contest. By the end of the year, they’ll have performed at least five concerts and competed in various choral contests.

This is a more select group of around 18-25 students, and any who are interested may audition in the spring for the following school year. This group focuses on more advanced musical pieces and builds upon proper sound, technique, and musicianship more seriously.
