Board Recap: January 7, 2025

The first board meeting of 2025 was held on January 7th, encompassing the Organizational Meeting, Board of Finance Meeting, and Board Work Session. This pivotal meeting set the stage for the year with critical appointments and forward-looking discussions.


Organizational Meeting Highlights

The Organizational Meeting, an annual event, included the following key actions and decisions:

Board Administration

  • Swearing-In of Board Members:

    • Randy Polston and Matt Deuel were officially sworn in to begin their new terms on the School Board of Trustees.

  • Election of Officers for 2025:

    • President: Heather Reichenbach was nominated and unanimously voted in as President.

    • Vice President: Tom Westerhof was nominated and unanimously voted in as Vice President.

    • Secretary: Matt Deuel was nominated and unanimously voted in as Secretary.

Vacancy in District 3

  • The District 3 seat on the board remains vacant. Interviews to fill this position are scheduled for Tuesday, January 14th, at 5:00 PM.


Board of Finance Meeting Highlights

A state-of-the-school financial report was presented by CFO April Fitterling, providing a comprehensive overview of fiscal indicators as outlined by the Indiana Department of Education (IDOE). The ADM (Average Daily Membership) for Warsaw Community Schools was reported at 6,705.7 for the year.

January Work Session Highlights

The work session provided an overview of the personnel report, financials & grants, as well as a construction update. The board was excited to meet our new School Resource Officer Jordan Roberts. Jordan is the new SRO at Lakeview Middle School, replacing Lewis Fuller. He was introduced to the board by Assistant Superintendent Tracy Horrell.

Jordan shared his strong passion for working with students. Jordan explained that he was drawn to the position because it offers a meaningful opportunity to make an impact, which is the reason he originally joined the police force. "There is no more impactful age group or population," he shared, "and the impacts made at this level, you get to see it bear fruit."

The board expressed their gratitude for Jordan’s commitment and passion, thanking him for meeting with them. They also shared their enthusiasm about having someone so dedicated to supporting students in Warsaw Community Schools.
