Washington STEM Academy is so fortunate to welcome back a former teacher, Mrs. Kara Nieter, as she will be teaching 3rd grade! Mrs. Nieter was a Washington Hornet from kindergarten through 6th grade and is a Warsaw High School graduate of 2005. She graduated from Butler University with a bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and Special Education.
Mrs. Nieter taught special education in Texas from 2010-2012 prior to teaching 2nd grade at Washington from 2012-2015. The past six years she has taken time off from her career to be at home with her family of 5, but she is very excited to come back to teaching this upcoming school year. She explains, "I am passionate about literacy and tying STEM into our everyday curriculum. I am most excited about implementing STEM bins into our classroom this year, creating the beginning stages of a 'MakerSpace' where the students will be encouraged to use the 'Engineering Design Process' where they can be creative, inventive, learn that mistakes are okay, and overall DESIGN projects that they are proud of!"
Mrs. Nieter has the heart of a teacher. She shares, "I have always enjoyed working with children and love having the opportunity to see these individuals grow and blossom throughout the school year. I strive to create a classroom environment where students are able to express their creativity through the use of engaging hands-on experiences throughout their learning day." Mrs. Nieter and her husband Tad have three children, Reese (age 6), Tate (age 4), and Kohen (age 2). As Mrs. Nieter says, "Reese will be in first grade this year and I am so thankful to have the opportunity to teach at a school where my children will attend."
Welcome Mrs. Nieter, we are so fortunate to have you back!
