1st grade Spanish teacher Sr. Durán reads to Kindergarten students

Have you ever heard of Dia de los Niños (Day of the Children)? It's a traditional Mexican holiday that has been celebrated on April 30 since the year 1925. It honors children and the valuable role they play in society and is often accompanied by parties, special treats and gifts. On Friday, our Leesburg DLI Spanish teachers decided to celebrate this element of the Hispanic culture with the students. In fact, all Leesburg Blazers received a small treat that day!

Sra. Rosario, Sr. Durán and Sr. Luna all rotated classes for 15 minutes in the morning and 15 minutes in the afternoon. This gave them to chance talk with former students as well as future students. It also gave students the opportunity to hear from another native speaker as they engaged in listening to an exciting picture book read aloud. It was a treat to watch the students listen to these books in Spanish and laugh along with the teachers! Here is a snippet of one of the books being read as well as some pictures of this special day.
