Students at Claypool Elementary have been expanding their art skills and gaining new experiences over the past year with a number of different opportunities. Since February, every Thursday after school, up to 36 students grades 3-6th participate in art club. They have gathered to learn about a different form or medium of art at each meeting based on the club members' decisions. Students have participated in a variety of different art methods such as origami, 3-D computer design, and independent ceramics. Most recently, members have chosen to learn more about sewing. Students learned the beginning stages of threading a needle, the running stitch, and how to tie knots.
Not only are the students learning life skills, but they are also learning about how to work with local businesses. Multiple students from all grade levels have colored seasonal decorations for Our Hometown Station, the local coffee shop in Silver Lake. The owners proudly displayed the students' artwork for their customers to come see and enjoy with their coffee.
Students were also recently recognized for their art achievements this year. Over 65 students from various grade levels were selected for their hard work they had put into their pieces during art class. Their artwork was showcased in the Elementary Tri-Kappa Art Show, along with the other Warsaw Community Schools elementary students. Their work was open to the public and was seen by many members of the community. This is a great opportunity for students who are interested in continuing art in their future endeavors, and to recognize them for their achievements this school year.
Overall, Claypool students are continuing to expand their skills and knowledge in the arts in and out of the classroom. They will continue to connect and prepare for real- world opportunities while becoming connected to their community around them.
